A quick story of the importance of modeling respect and why I’m proud to be an RIE mama. This morning on our way to the airport, I fussed at S when I realized she wasn’t in her car seat. It turned out it wasn’t her fault. My mom put her in the car, didn’t know how to buckle her in, and forgot to tell me that she hadn’t. I pulled over quickly and while I was buckling her straps, I told her that I was very sorry for fussing at her and explained that I was scared for her safety when I saw her out of it.
When we were on our way out of the shuttle to pick up our baggage, she became upset, raised her voice, and said ” I don’t want to go this way.” I calmly explained that while I understood she was upset, this was the way we had to go in order to get out of the shuttle. She then replied “I sorry mama. I fuss you.” At which point, everyone in the shuttle turned around and said “Awww.”
